While planning to make his home more energy efficient, Russell, one of our founders, felt frustrated: he wanted to know which improvements would have the greatest impact on carbon emissions, which would bring the most value, and how they would they work together. He found that the advice he wanted didn’t exist – it was either too generic or too biased.
CREATING A SOLUTION
That’s why, in 2005, Russell, Chris, Alaine and David put their heads together. Using their experience in engineering, energy and sustainability, they created Parity Projects – an award-winning company offering impartial home energy advice.
Parity Projects mainly focussed on tools for large landlords and local authorities until, in 2020, we introduced Ecofurb, to better focus on individual homeowners.
You can read more about the development of Ecofurb here.

OUR PARTNER ON THE GROUND
Ecofurb is a partnership between Parity Projects and RetrofitWorks. RetrofitWorks is a cooperative of retrofit professionals and contractors. All cooperative members are checked against industry, financial, insurance and health and safety criteria.
We believe in a fair and open fee structure.
We charge homeowners for advice: the home survey and Ecofurb Plan service and Building Performance Requirements.
If you ask for a referral to a contractor we charge a fee to the contractor, in the usual way a referrer would. The difference is that unlike most referrers, we really know the contractors and their standard of work. We work together regularly delivering larger projects, so if a contractor isn’t performing, we know. And, all members pay the same, so a company can’t pay to be first in line for leads.
